Finance Manager (Standalone Role)
Location: Nottinghamshire (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £42,000 – £52,000 + benefits
A growing construction business is seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to take full responsibility for its finance function. This is a standalone role offering significant autonomy and the opportunity to play a key part in supporting the continued growth of the business.
This position would suit an experienced and proactive finance professional who enjoys operating in a broad, all-encompassing role within an SME environment.
The Role
The Finance Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and meaningful insight to support decision-making across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Production of monthly management accounts and associated reporting
  • Preparation of quarterly forecasts, cash flow projections, and P&L reviews
  • Full ownership of month-end processes including accruals, prepayments, and journals
  • Management of accounts payable and receivable, including reconciliations and payments
  • Bank and general ledger reconciliations
  • VAT reconciliations and submissions
  • Project accounting, including cost tracking, revenue recognition, and budget comparisons
  • Preparation of monthly payroll and staff expenses
  • Liaising with external auditors and leading the year-end audit process
  • Supporting operational teams with financial information and analysis
  • Driving process improvements across finance and wider business operations
The Person
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently and taking full ownership of the finance function within a small business environment.
They will demonstrate:
  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail
  • Experience producing management accounts and overseeing end-to-end finance processes
  • Confidence in communicating financial information to non-finance stakeholders
  • A hands-on, proactive, and problem-solving approach
  • Knowledge of XERO
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
Experience within the construction sector or project-based environments would be advantageous but not essential.
Candidates may be qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA), part-qualified, or qualified by experience (QBE).
