What to expect when you start a new role within a different business:-

Being The Newcomer..

This can be a difficult feeling to come to terms with, especially when in your last job you were the experienced one. This is often the hardest adjustment but it is temporary!

In your first few weeks and months, there will be lots to take in.   You will meet lots of new people and be introduced to lots of new products and systems.  Be sure to take plenty of notes, ask questions and don’t be afraid to say if you don’t understand!  Every business has its quirks, so it’s important you feel confident enough to ask about anything your unsure of.  After all, asking questions and speaking to people is how we learn!

The Company Culture..

Starting a new role within a different company can be a real shock to the system.  Every company has its own traits and personality and as a new comer it will take time to learn about this and become integrated.

Observing is a great way to understand a companies culture, but it’s also equally important to be brave and speak to new people within the department and start developing relationships.

BE YOURSELF!

You’ve been hired for the role because of who you are and what you do, so there is no point in pretending to be something you’re not.   Stay true to who you are and what you believe and you can’t go far wrong.

Looking Backwards..

Sometimes, when faced with all the different challenges of joining a new company, the old and familiar can seem appealing!     Try to keep at the forefront of your mind WHY you left your last job and keep a positive mentality.

The first few months are tough with so much to deal with, but it does get easier the more you learn and the more integrated you become.  Depending on the role, it takes roughly 6 months in a new role to feel fully integrated so don’t be hard on yourself and with time it will get easier!
